The History of the Destin Fishing Rodeo
The first Destin Fishing Rodeo happened over half a century ago, in 1948. This created a huge splash, and shortly after, Destin got its nickname “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village.” The winner received a new kitchen complete with a sink, stove, and refrigerator. The awards mostly come from local business sponsors or are paid for through entry fees and merchandise sales. Today’s awards are typically fishing trips, fine rods and reels, weekend getaways, and good ol fashioned cash! The Destin Fishing Rodeo committee is hoping with new contacts; they will be able to add cars, boats, and exotic fishing trips to the list of prizes in the future!
